Recall LaGrange - 31st Anniversary

This year, is the 31st anniversary of “Recall LaGrange” event; established in 1988 by the LaGrange Living Historical Association in order to preserve the site of Alabama’s first chartered college; built in 1830 and burned during the Civil War in 1863.  “Recall LaGrange” portrays a living history of Civil War daily life encampment; ladies dressed in period clothing demonstrate early life conditions inside numerous lag cabins on the site. Friday (10 a.m. - 4 p.m.) is school/Senior Day.  Events include:  Observatory opens for Stargazers by the Sholas Astronomy Club, arts & crafts, wagon rides, Pioneer/log buildings open for tours and musical entertainment, Buford Parker.  Saturday's event ( 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.) features a reenactment of a period correct living history centering on a Prohibition Era raid on a Moonshine Still.  Displays will include antiques and fragments of period moonshine stills.  Living history events will be ongoing throughout the day, with tours of a nearby distillery.  Additional activities are:  vintage car exhibit, 1800's life camps, musical entertainment and artist & craftsmen from southeastern states.  On Sunday (10 a.m. - 4 p.m.), tour pioneer log buildings and grounds of the old College site, take a wagon ride and visit arts & crafts exhibits. .   A collectors Bicentennial Edition of “Recall LaGrange” Program Book will be available during the event or can be ordered by contacting Mrs. Lenz.
